Construction, Cost Concerns May Delay Madison Central Library Project

Link to January 25 Wisconsin State Journal report, "Options for city may delay central library plans".

Excerpt: Madison is rethinking its approach to building a $37 million central library, which could affect the project's price tag - positively or negatively - and delay its start.

The city is mulling options because the developer, the Fiore Cos., has concerns about delivering the core and shell of the library at a fixed price, roughly $21 million. Also, Fiore and the city were becoming worried about coordinating exterior construction with the $16 million interior build out, which the city is doing as a public works project.

Now, it appears the city will handle all construction as a public works project, which requires a bidding process, city attorney Michael May said.
