“This could be a hell of a bad two weeks. This is going to be a very bad two, and maybe three weeks. This is going to be three weeks like we’ve never seen before.  When you look at night, the kind of death that has been caused by this invisible enemy, it’s incredible."

“I don’t feel that as a G7 it properly represents what’s going on in the world. It’s a very outdated group of countries,” Mr. Trump said. But his decision to say he will unilaterally invite Russia — which was indefinitely suspended in March 2014 after the annexing of Crimea — is certain to inflame other member nations.

We’re directing the full resources and support of the federal government to safeguard high-risk populations, especially in nursing homes. We put in a very powerful strategy on nursing homes for quite a while. The best strategy for public health is to aggressively protect the most vulnerable while allowing younger and healthier Americans to work safely. Nationwide hospitalizations, new cases and deaths are all declining. We’re tracking cases and hospitalizations daily in states that are demonstrating their ability to rapidly identify and contain new outbreaks. Our testing is the best in the world. [absolute nonsense highlighted]
Six weeks later, the number of new cases triples to 77,083.  The number will peak at 304,248 on January 8, 2021, less than two weeks before Trump's last day in office.

On social media, he waged a weekend of Twitter wars against his critics, targeting a favorite foil, Barack Obama, after Trump's return to the golf course -- his 266th such trip in office -- sparked calls for him to concentrate more fully on the pandemic.
And he indulged his preoccupations on his tax returns, Hillary Clinton, Fox News, slanders against MSNBC host Joe Scarborough, the Russia investigation, Joe Biden's mental health, former Attorney General Jeff Sessions, mail-in voting in November and highlighted dangerous and unproven Covid-19 therapies promoted on conservative media he has tested himself.

In a tweet posted late Thursday night after his tour of a Ford plant making ventilators in Ypsilanti, Trump called Nessel a “The Wacky Do Nothing Attorney General of Michigan” and said she was “viciously threatening” Ford Motor Company because Trump was in the plant without a mask.
“Not their fault, & I did put on a mask,” he wrote.
He also said Nessel should not take action against Ford for allowing him not to wear a mask on public portions of the tour.
Nessel had asked Trump to don a mask during his tour of Ford Motor Company’s Rawsonville plant in Ypsilanti Township to comply with state orders and Ford company policy.

So I’m correcting this injustice and calling houses of worship essential. I call upon governors to allow our churches and places of worship to open right now. President Donald Trump: (01:06) If there’s any question, they’re going to have to call me, but they’re not going to be successful in that call. These are places that hold our society together and keep our people united. The people are demanding to go to church and synagogue, go to their mosque. Many millions of Americans embrace worship as an essential part of life. The ministers, pastors, rabbis, imams and other faith leaders will make sure that their congregations are safe as they gather and pray. I know them well. They love their congregations. They love their people. They don’t want anything bad to happen to them or to anybody else. The governors need to do the right thing and allow these very important, essential places of faith to open right now for this weekend. If they don’t do it, I will override the governors. In America, we need more prayer, not less.

“We are going to put out the fires. We’re not going to close the country,” Trump said. “We can put out the fires. Whether it is an ember or a flame, we are going to put it out. But we are not closing our country.”

CNN, 5/20/2020
By this weekend, all 50 states will have taken at least some steps to reopening societies and economies as the country stops trying to halt the virus in its tracks and tries to learn to live with it -- at least until a proven therapy or vaccine is developed.
But they will not be shepherded by a president offering advice on how to safely open, empowering his public health officials, or publicly shouldering the fear and concern of his compatriots.
Instead, Trump is undermining his own government's best practices by dosing himself with the drug hydroxychloroquine, discrediting studies that found it isn't effective in combating Covid-19 and refusing to wear a mask as recommended by his own health experts.

USA Today, 5/19/2020
“By the way, you know, when you say that we lead in cases, that’s because we have more testing than anybody else.  When we have a lot of cases, I don’t look at that as a bad thing. I look at that in a certain respect as being a good thing, because it means our testing is much better. So if we were testing a million people instead of 14 million people, it would have far few cases, right?
“So I view it as a badge of honor. Really, it’s a badge of honor."
