GET ME REWRITE. Franklin Graham: It's a sad day when religious bigots can no longer discriminate

Evangelical leader Franklin Graham says Trump is a 'changed person'.  (CNN, 1/24/2018)
The Graham end-around:  President Donald Trump is a "changed person" amid recent reports of an alleged affair with porn star Stormy Daniels, said the president and CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
"These alleged affairs, they're alleged with Trump, didn't happen while he was in office," Franklin Graham told CNN's Don Lemon on "CNN Tonight" on Tuesday

1/26/2018 update, "The decline and fall of the Christian right (Tony Perkins edition)", starts here.

Quoted in Tony Perkins: Trump Gets ‘a Mulligan’ on Life, Stormy Daniels.  (Politico Magazine, 1/23/2018)

On the other hand, millions of other Americans don't get a pass from Perkins.

The organization that Perkins head, the Family Research Council is designated by the Southern Poverty Law Center as hate group.

The FRC often makes false claims about the LGBT community based on discredited research and junk science. The intention is to denigrate LGBT people as the organization battles against same-sex marriage, hate crime laws, anti-bullying programs and the repeal of the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy.

The FRC 'vision' annotated:
Our vision is a culture in which all [preborn] human life is valued, [heterosexual] families flourish, and [discrimination in the name of] religious liberty thrives.

GET ME REWRITE: UW Board of Regents president Andrew Petersen earns a big fat 'F" in leadership for botched hiring process

Some of this failure can't be attributed to Scott Walker's shameful legacy as governor.

Reported in University of Wisconsin System search for new leader in shambles as lone finalist Jim Johnsen withdraws.  (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, 6/12/2020)
What's worse.  The decision came mere hours before the nine-member search committee chaired by UW Regent Vice President Michael Grebe (meet Dad!) was set to meet in closed session to consider recommending the full board make Johnsen a formal offer.

Original 11/8/2019 post, "What else would you expect from a GOP-infused UW System Board of Regents?" starts here.

Breaking precedent, UW System presidential search panel has no faculty, academic staff.  (Wisconsin State Journal, 11/8/2019)
The nine people who will identify System President Ray Cross’ successor are the smallest in number and least diverse presidential search committee going back at least to the early 1990s. The committee’s pick will oversee the state’s public university system, its 167,000 students and an annual budget of $6.3 billion. The next leader will also inherit lingering tension with faculty and staff who believe the Regents have not advocated strongly enough against controversial, Republican-promoted laws and policies in recent years, such as the weakening of shared governance principles, the removal of tenure protections from state law and large budget cuts.

GMC will revive the Hummer as a 1,000HP electric truck.  (engadget, 1/30/2020)
Still, the announcement represents a symbolic turnaround for the Hummer badge and GM as a whole. The original civilian Hummer (the H1) was meant to capitalize on post-Gulf War fervor and represented '90s excess between its enormous size and horrible fuel economy -- it was practically designed to hurt the environment.

Of course, GMC's announcement was made before the coronavirus pandemic changed everything.

Greetings from Trump's America: Union County, Oregon, where God does not protect covidiots

99 new coronavirus cases reported in Union County, more expected, say state officials.  (Oregonian, 6/16/2020)
The Center for Human Development, a nonprofit charged with coordinating test results and contact tracing in the small northeast Oregon County, said that “a number of cases have been associated with Lighthouse United Pentecostal Church, which recently hosted a testing clinic.”
A video of a recent worship service, published on the church’s Facebook page on May 24 but since deleted, showed worshippers by the hundreds standing as closely together as was normal in pre-pandemic times as they sang, clapped and moved to the music. At that time, Union County was in Phase 1 of reopening, under which faith communities were not allowed to convene in large groups.

“It will be devastating. It will change us,” said Kenney. “It’s really a complex story and hard to make just about this one time,” she said, referring to the criminal damage.
