Week by week: COVID-19 cases in Massachusetts UPDATE


Total tests (positive and negative) as of 5/18:  460,826 -- a one-week increase of 66,098 compared to 80,092 on 5/11.

First week since early April since Massachusetts has reported a weekly tally of new cases under 10,000.  It appears from the MDPH column graph below that Massachusetts is flattening the curve.




COVID-19 deaths in Massachusetts are projected to peak on April 18.  Total projected death: 3,236. (NPR)  As of 5/18, Massachusetts has reported 5,797 deaths.

Massachusetts far surpassed Governor Charlie Baker’s daily goal of completing 3,500 coronavirus tests, propelled in recent days by a commercial laboratory in suburban Marlborough that accounted for much of the surge. 
Quest Diagnostics’s laboratory roared to life in recent days, reporting more than 7,800 new tests over a two-day period. A company spokeswoman attributed the spike to high-capacity testing machines that began running late last week.
