Reported in Domestic violence group files suit against Elkhorn over denial of shelter.  (Madison.com, 10/26/2019)
The battle over converting a former medical clinic into Walworth County's first domestic violence shelter has landed in court.

The proposal has run into opposition from neighbors near the medical clinic. But we must not let this opportunity slip away to help New Beginnings carve out a suitable location where the group can put down roots and turn its full attention to fighting domestic violence.
The group has been operating in Walworth County for a long time as the local chapter of the Association for Prevention of Family Violence. Every year, the association helps hundreds of families deal with domestic violence — a problem that shows itself far too often in police reports, and occasionally in obituaries.
However, when it comes to providing domestic violence victims the most immediate need of safe harbor, Walworth County’s best efforts have been lacking. The nearest emergency shelters are miles away.
For two years, the leaders of New Beginnings have been raising funds and making plans to open a shelter. When they spotted the old medical clinic at 20 N. Church St. in downtown Elkhorn, the property was perfect in more ways than one.

According to Merriam-Webster, the first known use of  'NIMBY' occurred in 1980.

  2. comb-over
  3. dis
  4. gridlocked
  5. one-trick pony
