"White Room" by Cream debuts as a national breakout on the Billboard Hot 100 for the week ending October 5, 1968


But it stalled at #6, where it remained for 3 of its 5 weeks in the top 10.  Other observations:  The Four Top and Neil Diamond continue their slumps.  What does Elvets Rednow spell backwards?

Once upon a time, national breakout status was awarded to a single that debuted at #70 or higher on the Hot 100.  "White Room debuted at #58 but didn't reach the top 10 until week 5.
