You can say the gift occurs with the use of the extremely loaded (charged with an underlying meaning or implication) word 'elites', especially when you lump this group with the phrase 'news media'..

In other words, the net worth of these 50 elected officials places them in or very close to the 99th percentile.
This most certainly qualifies them as members of an 'elite', a group or class of people seen as having the most power and influence in a society, especially on account of their wealth or privilege
