Dear Craig Gilbert, There is no mystery to Scott Walker's collapsing poll numbers


If you take this column graph at face value, it appears that the more people hear about Scott Walker, the more likely they are to form an unfavorable opinion.

  • The number of poll respondents who have 'never heard of' Walker dropped 9 percentage points in less than 2 months.
  • The number of poll respondents who have an 'unfavorable' opinion of Walker increased 11 percentage points in less than 2 months.

The above graph is based on 305 registered voters who describe themselves as Republicans and 139 who describe themselves as independents who lean Republican.

'Most', as in a declining plurality.
But most Republicans who have an opinion about him still view him favorably. In polling terms, his negatives remain low, even while his standing in the contest has plummeted.

That 'wonderful, wonderful feeling' doesn't come his way.
