Lynn Stainbrook Selected as Director of Rockford Public Library

Rockford Public Library announces choice for new director.   (Rock River Times, 9/23/2014)

Congratulations, Lynn!
Stainbrook was one of four finalists for the position. She is the current director of the Brown County Library in Green Bay, Wisconsin, where she oversees eight branch libraries, 130 employees and an annual budget of more than $7 million. Before leading the Brown County Library, Ms. Stainbrook was the executive librarian at the Arlington Heights Library. She holds a master’s degree in library science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and is a Janesville Wisconsin native.

Lawmakers who worked with Stainbrook gave her high marks Tuesday for modernizing the library's collection, expanding children's programs and steering it through staffing and budget challenges. But she also experienced struggles, as she and library leaders settled for a slimmed-down version of an ambitious plan to modernize the central library in 2012, and angered some lawmakers with cutbacks this year to the Bookmobile program.

Rockford is my dad's hometown, and I've used the library's local history and genealogy materials extensively.
