A Lobbyist Provides Us with an Example of Hyperbole

New fee aims to charge developers for subdivisions that extend urban boundaries.  (Wisconsin State Journal, 8/10/2014)

The fee is $12,000 for a 100-acre subdivision, with a sliding scale for each additional acre.

How much of an increase?

Let's use this subdivision design as an example.

Description:   The original site plan called for a conventional subdivision of 34 house lots of 80,000 square feet (just under two acres) each on the 85 acre site,

Now let's do the math:  $12,000 divided by 34 equals $352.94   A dealbreaker?  Probably not.

"Just under two acres" is considered a large lot size.  The average lot size for new homes in the U.S. is much less.

And as for the San Francisco analogy.   Just plain silly.

(San Francisco is California's only consolidated city-county.)
