Budget Compromise in Chicago Restores Some Funds to Library

$3.3 million out of the $8.6 million he suggested cutting.  That's still gotta hurt.

Excerpt: "I feel there has been a productive discussion between City Council and the mayor," said Moore, one of 28 aldermen who last week signed a letter seeking changes in the proposal. "They listened to our concerns. Did we get everything we wanted? No. But I think it's a pretty fair compromise."

After the letter was sent out, Emanuel announced he would ease up on layoffs and scaling back hours at the city's public libraries, and he would put more money into graffiti scrubbing and vacant-lot grass cutting.
