What's Popular Reading at the Brown County Public Library

Link to December 15 Green Bay Press-Gazette article, "Series reign as Brown County's most popular".

Excerpt:    Brown County Library users are fans of fiction, particularly books that are part of a series. It's a trend that holds for both adult and children's books.

The Green Bay Press-Gazette acquired a list of the most popular books that are checked out and reserved at the numerous library branches in the county.

Topping the list for adults are "Safe Haven" by Nicholas Sparks, and "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," by Stieg Larsson. In both cases, 90 people have put their names on the reserve list waiting for the books to be available.

"The books that tend to have the biggest hype do tend to be fiction," said Sandy Kallunki, a librarian at the Central Library. "I'm not sure it equates to sales though. A lot of it is driven by the series phenomenon like the 'Harry Potter' books or the 'Twilight' series. They start reading them and want to read through the series."

The most popular children's book right now is "Diary of a Wimpy Kid," also part of a series
