2,500-Pound Statue Stolen from Allen (Texas) Public Library

Link to June 14 WFAA report, "Statue of reading boy stolen from Allen library".

Excerpt: Police aren't sure how thieves were able to haul off the 2,500-pound statue. Officers fear it may have been scrapped for its metal.

If so, Retiring Guy hopes whoever accepted the statue as scrap is charged with a crime.

Couldn't the thieves just cut it up on their own to avoid suspicion by a recycler?

I think I may have applied for a job at that library after library school graduation.
