Marin County Libraries Look to June 8 Ballot Measure to Boost Support

Link to April 17 Marin Independent Journal article, "Marin voters to weigh $49 library parcel tax on June ballot".

Excerpt:   The San Rafael city library has scaled back to 48 hours per week and axed its children's librarian.

The story's the same in San Anselmo except there, hours are down to 36.

And in the 10-branch Marin County Free Library system, libraries are threatened with closure: Last year, the district shuttered its San Geronimo Valley branch.

Funding problems brought on by flagging revenue in the poor economy cut across three library systems and - in addition to San Rafael and San Anselmo - affect patrons in a wide swath of the county including Novato, Corte Madera, Fairfax, Marin City and much of West Marin.

Voters in all those areas are being asked to consider a $49 annual parcel tax aimed at shoring up library services
