Drum Roll, Please

Link to November 25 Springfield Republican article, "Springfield-based dictionary says 'bailout' is its word of the year".

I used to work for the G. & C. Merriam Company from March 1976 to August 1978. Stodgy place back then. (No wonder I never fit in.) The woman who took my place as Librarian is still there -- as are seven other employees, according to the Editorial Staff listing in the latest edition of the Collegiate Dictionary. (I can't imagine! 2 1/2 years was more than enough for me.)

When publication dates approached and the editors-in-chief went into panic mode, I was given various editorial duties -- such as reviewing proof sheets, i.e. reading the dictionary. My eyes sitll glaze over when I think about it.
